Step 1 brush the wool with a sheepskin wire brush and shake to remove dust. Now transfer to a washing machine to spin out excess water. I use a bucket or washing basket to make the transfer. Always allow the rug to air dry the high heat in a clothes dryer can melt the fur.

If your machine isn t big enough bring your rug to a laundromat with a larger machine. Don t use traditional washing liquid washing. Put the rug in the washing machine and refer to the bottle of sheepskin detergent for how much detergent to add to the washing machine. Wash small rugs on a delicate cycle using sheepskin detergent.

Washing a sheepskin rug is a simple process with the right products. A faux sheepskin rug should be hand washed following the same steps as a natural sheepskin rug. Then let the skin drain for about 30 minutes in the bath or tub. This works well for rugs that are roughly the size of a doormat.

Roll the sheepskin rug up and gently squeeze out as much water as you can. You can also vacuum the rug if you use an attachment.
